Egyptian professional league for Egyptian football clubs

The Egyptian Premier League (Arabic: الدوري المصري الممتاز) is an Egyptian professional league for Egyptian football clubs and represents the top division of Egyptian football. The championship consists of eighteen competing teams in a home and away league system. It is currently known as the Presentation Egyptian Premier League after the advertising company has signed a sponsorship agreement with the Egyptian Football Association. The highest stake of the league is 120,000 (Al Ahly vs Zamalek).

There are 18 clubs in the Egyptian Premier League. The season lasts from August to May. During the season each club plays twice, once in the home stadium and once in the stadium of the opponent, a total of 34 games. Teams receive three points for a win and one point for a draw. No points are awarded for a loss. The teams are ranked by total score, direct confrontation, goal difference and goals scored. At the end of each season, the club with the most points will be crowned champion. If the points are equal, the direct confrontation, the goal difference and the goals scored determine the winner. The three lowest ranked teams descend into Division II, and the three best teams from the three divisions of Division II are promoted in their stead.

A total of 66 clubs have played from its founding in the years 1948/49 up to and including the 2017/18 season in the Egyptian Premier League. Since its inception, however, only two clubs have been members of the Egyptian Premier League for each season. These are Al Ahly and Zamalek, while Al-Ittihad and Al Masry have only been absent for two league seasons.

Egypt's third and final game in 2018 was the Red Sea derby against Saudi Arabia. El Hadary was the first goalkeeper at the expense of El Shenawy and became the oldest player in the World Cup at 45 years and 161 days. In the 22nd minute, Abdallah Said's pass to Salah saw a lob, scoring a goal. This was the first time since 1934 that Egypt did not score a penalty goal, and it was the first time that Egypt took the lead in a World Cup match (with the exception of Fawzi's hat-trick, which led to a 3-2 draw against Hungary) was held by the referee in the offside).

Five minutes before half-time, Ahmed Fathy was accused of intentionally treating Yasser Al-Shahrani's cross in the penalty area. El Hadatu parried to deny the kick of Fahad Al-Muwallad, but his celebrations were canceled when a second penalty was imposed on Ali Gabr's pulling on Al-Muwallad's jersey. Salman Al-Faraj stepped forward this time to shoot past the goalkeeper and reach his side level. The Egyptian substitute Kahraba shot late on Al-Mosailem. Salem Al-Dawsari finished the closing phase with a right-footer past El Hadary. The second penalty was the last goal scored in the first half of a World Cup match since 1966 with 50 minutes and 36 seconds. The second goal, although not a record, was scored in the 95th minute (despite a 4-minute extra time), after which the referee immediately ended the game.

Hector Cuper, who was criticized for his defense strategies, was fired. The Egyptian Football Federation has also been criticized for being based in Chechnya, a Muslim-Russian state that has no football history and is far from playing games in Egypt. It is assumed that the EFA did so for political reasons.

While the match with Uruguay had only a few spectators, tons of Egyptians were present in the match against Russia, to the point that the Egyptians outnumbered the Russians (although the match was hosted by Russia). This was fraught with controversy, as many Egyptian celebrities were present for free, possibly as a contract with an Egyptian telephone company.

The low participation in the game between Egypt and Uruguay was due to "ghost winners" who bought tickets but were not present. It is one of the least attended World Cup games of modernity. The Egyptian media and the public strongly criticized the leadership of the team by the EFA. The players also refused to conduct interviews after the game. Many of them have been fined or banned by FIFA.
