Scottish Championship-Ladbrokes Championship

The Scottish Championship, known as the Ladbrokes Championship for sponsorship, is the second tier of the Scottish Football Professional League, the Scottish professional football league for men's league competition. The Scottish Championship was launched in July 2013, after the Scottish Professional Football League emerged from the merger of the Scottish Premier League and the Scottish Football League. Teams receive three points for a win and one point for a draw. No points are awarded for a loss. The teams are scored according to the total score, goal difference and goals scored. At the end of each season, the club with the most points will be crowned league champion. If the points are equal, the goal difference determines the winner. If this still does not lead to a winner, the two teams must participate in a neutral place in a playoff game to determine the final placings.

The champions are promoted directly to the Scottish Premier League football and swap places with the lowest club in the Premier League. The clubs, which occupy the 2nd, 3rd and 4th place, then enter the play-off of the Premier League. The club with the 3rd place plays the club with the 4th place, the winner then plays the club with the 2nd place. The winner of this tie then plays against the eleventh-placed Premiership club. If the play-off winner of the championship wins, the club will be promoted, with the Premiership club descending. Otherwise, the Premiership club may retain its position in the Premiership if the Championship club is not promoted.

The championship play-off system is similar to that of the Premiership team, with the lowest club in the championship automatically relegated and the ninth-placed club playing a play-off with League One's second, third and fourth-placed clubs.
